This Money Saver Kit gives you everything you need to restore the entire front steering and ball joint assembly on your 1974-1988 Wide Track Cherokee or J-Series Truck—at a discounted price compared to buying each part separately.
The kit includes all the main steering and suspension wear items up front:
- 2 upper ball joints - connect the steering knuckle to the axle and allow your wheels to pivot smoothly.
- 2 lower ball joints – connect the steering knuckle to the axle and allow your wheels to pivot smoothly.
- Pitman arm to drag link tie rod end assembly– Connects the pitman arm (on the steering box) to the drag link, transmitting motion from the steering wheel into the steering linkage so the wheels respond when you turn.
- (2) adjustment sleeves – threaded sleeves that join the inner and outer tie rods together. They allow precise adjustment of toe alignment (how straight the front wheels point).
- Knuckle to knuckle steering tie rod – the long bar that spans the axle, connecting the left and right steering knuckles. Keeps both wheels turning together at the same angle.
- Outer tie rod end at the knuckle –the pivot that attaches the tie rod to each steering knuckle, allowing the wheels to steer while still moving up and down with the suspension.
Why You Might Need This Kit
If you’ve noticed loose or wandering steering, clunking noises, uneven tire wear, or the truck pulling to one side, these are all signs your steering and ball joints are worn out. Replacing them with this complete kit will tighten up your steering, improve safety, and make your Full Size Jeep drive like it should.
Fits:
- 1974–1983 Cherokee (Wide Track only)
- 1974–1988 J-Series Trucks
What’s the Difference Between Wide Track and Narrow Track Full Size Jeeps?
Narrow Track (NT): These models have axles that sit closer together, so the wheels don’t stick out as far past the body and have smaller factory flares. Models include:
- 1963-1983 All Wagoneers
- 1974-1983 All 4-Door Cherokees, some 2 Door Cherokees
- 1984-1991 All Grand Wagoneers
Wide Track (WT): These models use wider axles, so the wheels stick out farther for a more aggressive stance. Jeep added larger factory fender flares to cover the wider tires. Wide Track models were often marketed as more off-road ready (like the Cherokee Chief or and J10/J20 trucks).
- 1974-1983 2-Door Cherokees such as Cherokee Chief, Cherokee Laredo (note some 2-door Cherokees were ALSO narrow track)
- 1963-1988 J-Series Trucks
