Easily mate your AMC engine to a GM automatic transmission with this premium adapter kit—precision engineered for seamless swaps in Full Size Jeep applications. This adapter works with all 1972-on AMC engines, including the 232, 258, 304, 360, and 401, and is compatible with the following GM transmissions: TH350, TH400, TH700R4, 4L60, early one-piece case 4L60E, and 4L80E (with converter modifications).
*NOTE: Some AMC engine cranks were inconsistent in their flange stickout from the engine rear face. Typical AMC I6 and V8 crank flange protrusion from the rear block should be just over 1/2"
This kit features a laser-cut and machined plate with dowel locators and precise fastening points to ensure total concentricity and long transmission life. The black zinc-plated finish provides superior corrosion resistance and a professional appearance. All required hardware, spacers, and detailed instructions are included for a hassle-free installation.
Starter Compatibility:
Works with AMC starters. You will use your existing AMC starter. Some applications may require a specific AMC starter, which will be noted in the included instructions. Refer to the instructions provided.
Transmission Fitment Notes:
- Early electronically controlled 4L60E and 4L80E transmissions require a standalone transmission control unit.
- 4L80E applications must use a modified torque converter with TH350 pads/bolt pattern, as AMC flexplates do not match the factory 4L80E pattern.
- Late model 4L60E/4L80E transmissions with removable bellhousing or hex rear bolt pattern are not compatible.
- Not compatible with 6L80E transmissions.
- TH350 is the preferred transmission for 1972–1983 CJ5 Jeeps due to length constraints (minimal lift required).
