I wanted to shoot a quick video basically show you how to, um, take this gasket out for your Jeep Cherokee SJ rear window. So if you're either looking to replace it or replace this glass, you have two different options as far as gasket type. Now, um, on one gasket type, which is mainly which what comes with this, uh, with these vent window here, is essentially the gasket that has this little filler piece in the middle here.
So what you'd want to do is first start off by heating it up, all the way around, and then follow that with Armor All roll. Keep coating and coating and coating and heating and heating and heating, so you can get this as pliable as possible.
The more pliable this is, the easier your life is going to be.
Now, after you've applied all the Armorall and you've heated it to the point where it's no longer sucking into the rubber gasket itself, then at that point, you want to go in and find the separating point of that middle gasket, that middle draw pull. Then you can just pull this out all the way around.
That's going to allow this gasket to be able to collapse on itself. And at that point, I would always use a plastic, bone style tool versus something like a screwdriver. If you use a screwdriver, there's just a number of things that can go south on you.
After you pull out that center section, heat it up, and then basically just try to collapse it a little bit. Heat it up, collapse it a little bit. Heat it up, collapse it a little bit. Something I like to do is when I start to get it a little more collapsed in, is actually have another one stuck in there, leave it in its place. Heat it up, drop it down. Heat it up, drop it down. And then so you just kind of work your way down. And work your way out.
Now, you're not going to get it all the way out in one run. In other words, you're going to have to slowly get a little bit out, little out, little out, little out. And then kind of work your way around. Sometimes I'm able to get the corner out a little bit, and then work my way around from there. But, it's a very slow process. And you can't just work in one section. You have to basically slowly divide it all the way around and really take your time doing it because I've seen them break and it's not pretty.
If you don't have that little center gasket, then all you have to do is basically heat it up, continue to heat it up and add your Armor All and follow the exact same system, minus removing that center section.
Hopefully this helps you and your Full Size Jeep out on the road keeping the legend alive!
