Replace your factory ammeter with an analog voltmeter that lets you monitor charging-system voltage without running charging current through the gauge. This kit includes the gauge, wiring, positioning templates, and connection supplies to help you complete the conversion.
The factory ammeter puts high-current electrical connections behind your dashboard. After decades of use, those connections can loosen, corrode, and develop resistance, creating heat where you don’t want it. Properly bypassing the ammeter removes the original gauge and its terminals from that high-current path, addressing an important electrical weak point in these classic Jeeps.
A voltmeter works differently. Rather than carrying charging current, it monitors system voltage through an ignition-switched power connection and ground. The 8–18-volt display gives you an easy-to-read picture of system voltage, helping you recognize charging changes that may point to a battery, alternator, or wiring issue. The black face, white numbers, and red pointer provide a clean analog appearance suited to a classic Jeep dashboard.
We’ve included the wiring—not made it a separate add-on. The kit comes with two wires, connectors, and positioning templates to help locate the voltmeter correctly in your instrument cluster. A butt connector is included for joining the two original ammeter wires, along with heat shrink for insulating a soldered connection. Soldering is always the preferable way of connecting wires.
During installation, the two wires originally connected to the ammeter must be securely joined together and insulated. The replacement voltmeter connects to ignition-switched power and ground, not to the original ammeter wires. See installation guide.

Reconditioned parts come with a minimum warranty of 90 days, unless otherwise stated (Refer to product listing for warranty duration). The warranty is void if the parts are not returned in the same condition in which they are sold. Warranties for aftermarket parts are covered by the manufacturer.

For orders delivered within the continental US where reason for return isn't a result of a JeepRecyclers.com/McDaniel Motor Co. error, the cost of the initial shipping charge and a return fee will be deducted from your refund. A prepaid shipping label(s) will be provided. The flat fee for each item being returned can be found in the chart below:
